I watched my dad trade/invest in stocks when i was young. I always though "cool! legal gambling!" and of course I thought everyone was a winner

The one think I can tell you is to be careful. Never risk more than you are willing to lose.. because you can lose that 5k, very quickly. Congrats though it sounds like you're on the right track. Time/practice/research, keep it up and you'll do well.

No trading background here. I started making some decent money in the real estate market and wanted to put it to work, so I started a paper portfolio that did well (it was a bull market so it was not hard to go long and win) Then after hearing a family member make some quick $ in penny stocks I got even more interested. One thing led to another and I had an account with a mix of investments in bigger board stocks and started to play with pennies.

My first penny stock doubled a couple days after my investment. it sucked me right on in. I made great gains on the big board stocks I held but it wasn't the get rich quick I was looking for so I sold them and went for penny stocks. I made some money and lost some money. I quit with the pennies after I found out how they are really ran and realized the only people making real $ are on the inside. I did walk away with some gains and seeked out a more stable environment. I still wanted the leverage so I worked with options and eventually futures. I have found my home in the futures and forex world and I don't think I will ever look back.

Once I developed my system and learned to trust it I found more time for myself. I still have a hard time peeling myself away from the screen at night, there is so much information/data to review. I still read the same books over and over.
