Default Analyze the Cubs, breakout in progress!

Y Axis - Number of games above .500 winning percent (even record)
X Axis - Game number of the season

I just made this chart but I have been visualizing it all year in my head. I started to notice the resistance at 20 games over .500 and the day they got to 21 over, I told my friend to watch out for the breakout. Not even 25 games later they are 35 over .500.

I also see a long term trendline with 3, maybe 4 touches. Anyone else bullish on the Cubs?

You know your a chartist when you start relating things like baseball stats or bowel movements into charts.

I don't know about the bowel movements, but my brain is starting to see more and more things in the form of charts. I consider it a good thing.

ROFL simon!!!!!!!!

it would take a Cubs fan to drill down to a stock market type chart to find some sort of hope in winning a ring. Poor cubs

on another note it is damn cool how you can take data like that and poor it into something more readable to us chartist

Ah yes, nice BM chart MC. Maybe one day I'll be so entrenched in the chart mindset that I'll start charting my kids BMs, but for now I'll stick to the important things; stocks and baseball.

I posted this same chart at HSM and haven't gotten one response yet even with 30 views. Even though none of you are Cubs fans, at least you can still appreciate it on some level. As for the chart itself, it may be pure coincidence but I think there is merit to it. When the Cubs broke resistance at 20 games over, they had this aura of confidence and mojo to them that they hadn't had in a little while. It just totally reminded me of a stock in which the bulls took over and you could just see the momentum that was taking place. Another chart I have been thinking about but I don't know how to do it would be a candlestick chart with the total run differential. Instead of intraday action, you would chart intragame action. If the other team scored five runs first but the Cubs ended up winning 10-5, the candle would have started with a gap down of -5 runs but it would end up a long white candle that finished up 5 runs on the day. Just an idea.

simon thats really weird i didnt even think of that... you could chart baseball games as candles... you could do it by the out/inning for a short term chart or by the series/week for a slightly longer term chart haha. Hmm I wonder if it would have any credibility?

When I sit in southern california taffic I always think about the different lanes in terms of trends and such. Gotta keep yourself entertained somehow.

Updated chart with support lines added. My good friend who happens to be a Brewers fan was making fun of my chart and told me the cubs were overbought at +35. I actually agreed when I saw them start to play very sloppy, just like a stock starts to show signs of weakness intraday after an extended bullish move. I did tell him that I saw support around the +28/+29 area. Well, as you can see they bounced at +28 and have started to play much better since then. In fact Carlos Zambrano just threw a no hitter today. The bulls are back in control of the Cubs, just watch. Notice on the chart how they are now back and holding above that steep trendline. In essence the Cubs have just completed a low volume pullback and are now ready to continue their incredible bull run.
